The CEO Steering Committee

The CEO Steering Committee is the highest-level decision-making body of OGCI. It is made up of the CEOs of each of the member companies. Accountabilities include:

  • OGCI targets and other major public commitments
  • Approving major public products including OGCI reports, declarations, statements and press releases that contain public targets, commitments or policy support
  • Approving overall annual work plan and resources

All members have equal voting rights. OGCI endeavours to make decisions by consensus, which is defined as agreement between all OGCI members minus one.

All member companies share the ambition to achieve net zero emissions from the operations under our control (scope 1 and 2 emissions). We have also agreed to leverage our influence to achieve the same in assets operated by our partners.

The Executive Committee

The Executive Committee (ExCom) comprises representatives from each member company. ExCom proposes and delivers on the strategy agreed by the CEO Steering Committee. This includes the annual work plan, overseeing the activities of OGCI workstreams and taskforces, proposing OGCI targets and other major public commitments and products. ExCom decisions require consensus.

OGCI workstreams

OGCI’s workstreams are composed of member company experts and cover OGCI focus areas:

  • The Role of Gas workstream focuses on actions that help to improve the climate performance of natural gas across the gas value chain, notably on methane emissions reduction and flaring.
  • The Carbon Capture Use and Storage (CCUS) workstream aims to identify and resolve barriers to CCUS deployment from industry, policy, regulatory and storage perspectives to facilitate the development of a commercial CCUS industry, able to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions at the scale required.
  • The Transport workstream focuses on catalytic actions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transport sectors on a significant scale, focusing on hard-to-abate sectors like aviation, shipping and long-haul trucks.
  • The Energy Efficiency workstream identifies and prioritizes opportunities for energy efficiency in the energy sector through deployment of high-impact technologies and systems.
  • The Natural Climate Solutions workstream identifies opportunities for OGCI to contribute to improving the capacity of oceans, forests, grasslands, peat, mangroves and soil to act as natural sinks for carbon dioxide.
  • The Low Emission Opportunities workstream is OGCI’s think-tank, exploring issues of relevance to mid- and long-term global emissions reduction.

OGCI taskforces

OGCI’s taskforces are comprised of member company experts and focus on specific items to support OGCI’s progress.

  • The Reporting taskforce supports the accuracy and integrity of data collection and reporting on key performance indicators for OGCI.
  • The Communications taskforce supports OGCI’s communications team.
  • The Legal taskforce is responsible for ensuring compliance and risk management on behalf of members.

The number, composition and mandate of workstreams and taskforces evolve over time to maximize the impact and efficiency of OGCI’s actions and engagements.
