A Case Study for Onboard Carbon Capture on the MR Tanker Stena Impero
Project REMARCCABLE developed a prototype design for an Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage (OCCS) system for integration onto Stena Impero, an MR Tanker owned and operated by Stena Bulk.
The effort aimed to better understand the challenges and opportunities of OCCS with respect to CO2 capture rates, vessel integration, capital expenditure, and operating expenditure.
This report documents the joint effort undertaken by the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), Stena Bulk, Alfa Laval, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Deltamarin, Lloyd’s Register, Seatrium, and TNO to develop a conceptual and front end engineering design (FEED) and cost estimate for a retrofit OCCS system onboard Stena Impero.
The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative is a CEO-led organization bringing together 12 of the largest oil and gas companies worldwide to lead the industry’s response to climate change.
