Over the past decade, OGCI has helped lead the oil and gas industry’s response to the climate challenge – demonstrating what’s possible and collaborating across the industry to accelerate progress to net zero.
Since 2017, OGCI’s member companies have reduced their aggregate upstream operated methane emissions by 63%, cut routine flaring by 72% and reduced carbon intensity by 24%. Our members have also spent $125 billion in low-carbon technologies, such as renewables, biofuels and carbon capture.
To help scale up emissions reductions across the oil and gas sector, we’re sharing essential knowledge and best practice through the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), an initiative we helped shape and launch at COP28.
OGCI’s members are reducing their own emissions, helping other industries reduce theirs and investing in the energy system of the future. See some of our stats below.
As OGCI marks 10 years of collective action, we’re proud of what we’ve done to help the industry decarbonize.
We’ve shown what’s possible, and we’re sharing what we’ve learned with companies outside our group to accelerate emissions reductions.

Decarbonizing the energy system is a complex task that requires collaboration. OGCI works with many partners to deliver its own initiatives and support efforts by others.
