OGCI is collaborating with Student Energy — a global network of 50,000 youth and sustainable energy students from around 150 countries — on an initiative to hear views from young people around the world on how OGCI member companies and the oil and gas industry can best support the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Youth are welcome to join one or more of the six Regional Dialogues, which aim to foster dialogue between representatives from OGCI and youth, while focusing on issues essential to OGCI’s climate action efforts.

The Regional Dialogues are part of the OGCI Student Energy Challenge, which runs from June until the end of 2020. As part of this collaboration, Student Energy selected eight youth leaders from around the world to form a Challenge Team. The team will help facilitate the Regional Dialogues and undertake research on the energy sector, climate change and OGCI efforts. The team will be able to consolidate the conversations and their research into clear recommendations for OGCI and then present them to the OGCI leadership.

This initiative is in response to a suggestion by youth during a dialogue in Sept 2019 that the exchange continue. It also reflects a desire by OGCI member companies to constructively engage stakeholders, including youth, to enhance climate action.
